I used to think that the word “atheist” was (nearly!) synonymous with “murderer” or “rapist,” or at LEAST with “terrible person.”

I do not think that anymore.

Still LDS!

Still Christian

“I do believe there are some atheists (celebrity and not) who have legitimate morality and goodness, but I still think it is very sad (perhaps even tragic) that there is an overall disregard of faith and belief in our society.”

“Why would we want to glamorize or capitalize anything that reeks of sexual violence AT ALL?!”

“O Jerusalem, Jerusalem”

~Luke 13:34

As you can probably guess, I had an internal struggle of whether or not I wanted to include a picture of this “book.”  But the juxtaposition is powerful enough that I feel it is justified.

Men, women, and children all over the world experience sexual/ emotional/ physical abuse.  And now one of the best selling books in America (and soon to be film) tries to make this stuff look hot?!  I think I just threw up a little bit…

Read more here about my VERY strong feelings concerning “50 shades of disgusting/filth/trash.”

And as is always the case, if you believe what I’m saying, don’t be afraid to PASS THIS ALONG!

Really Awesome Readers!

What does the stuff you read say about you?

For good and for bad?

and since you are what you read,

KathBath knows that you are at least somewhat awesome!

(since you’re reading my blog!)

Hide yo kids, hide yo wife!

Screen shot 2013-08-14 at 9.29.57 AMThe video from which this still comes is meant to be funny (though personally I find it offensive), but it brings up a lot of serious issues.  Our world is fallen, and although there are so many beautiful reasons i have to be happy, no one can deny that there is A LOT of evil out there, particularly when it comes to how people treat children.  Penn State Scandal, Casey Anthony case, etc, it seems to be everywhere we look.  It can be almost enough to make us want to stay indoors forever and never want to interact with anyone again (let alone have our own children), but I believe there are resources available to help us cope with this problem.  The following LDS General Conference address is a landmark talk on some ways to not only help us prevent (child) abuse, but also heal from it.

Read here.

Parents, in sensitive, appropriate ways,

teach your children some of the warning signs of abuse.

I also like this resource because it helps us identify the location of predators so that we can better keep our children safe.

Do you have any other practical ideas to help us (from a grassroots perspective) combat this problem?  Lemme know:  katherineannewilkinson@gmail.com

When children have to play inside so they don’t disappear…
