Abuse is one of the most heinous crimes in the history of humanity,

Image

and still I forgive Chris Brown.

I the Lord will forgive whom I will forgive,

but of you it is required to forgive ALL men.”

Once again, I go over my standard 2 minutes

because it is important for me to express ALL I need to say:

Recapture:

I forgive Chris Brown.

I’m quite sure Rihanna has publicly expressed that she has.

I in no way condone his past behavior as acceptable.

Abuse of any kind is unspeakably evil, ugly, and utterly unacceptable.

I can understand where Miranda Lambert (and others with similar viewpoints) are coming from.

I believe that the Atonement of Jesus Christ can redeem even people who make BIG mistakes.

I believe Mr. Brown when he has publicly expressed how sorry he is.

I expect Chris to be on his absolute best behavior from now on.

I sincerely hope I am not offending anyone who has ever experienced abuse.

And to begin to conclude this post, I wish to share the following LDS Conference Talk concerning this heartbreaking topic.

Read here.

I pray that you, as one abused or one who has caused it, will act now to avail yourself of the healing power of the Atonement of Jesus Christ. I testify that your faith and obedience will assure that He will help you.

Thank you Elder Scott.

READERS!

If any of you have experienced

or are currently experiencing abuse of any kind,

my heart and prayers are with you.

Remember that you are a child of God

and deserve to be treated as such.

Attempting to “prove” that the LDS Church is true…

Image

rarely works.

But still know your stuff!

And still stand up for it (the Church).

Here is an interesting talk that is somewhat (though not directly)

related to this idea.

Image

Overall, when it comes to nitpicking and even (quasi) arguing about religion,

just try to remember that it’s about Christ.

Image

And that if someone isn’t interested,

IT.  IS.  OKAY.

(Line of Propriety)

Remember that the most important convert in your life is YOU.

The most important testimony to maintain is your own.

Capiche?

While we ought to maintain the purity of the image of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, we need not feel anxiety about “enemies” (real or perceived).  Furthermore, we should seek to avoid being overly defensive while simultaneously exercising conviction in our own faith.

“The Lord answers our prayers, but it is usually through another person that he meets our needs….”

"The Lord answers our prayers, but it is usually through another person that he meets our needs....""The Lord answers our prayers, but it is usually through another person that he meets our needs...."

A few weeks ago, I called my friend Alex ( Alex is gender-neutral, and of course is not his/her real name.  But I double-checked anyways and now publish this with his/her permission).  Alex did not answer the phone, but the following text conversation ensued:

Alex:  Hey!  I’m at work.  How are you?

Katherine: Haha, I figured.  Just calling to say hi!  Call back when you can. No rush, just thought of you and wanted to let you know.

Alex:  Katherine, I truly believe you were inspired to call me.  Thank you for following through with your thoughts even if you didn’t think anything of it.  When you called, I was in the bathroom crying having a really hard time, but your calling is an answer to my prayers.

Katherine:  Alex, I’m so glad I could lift your spirits a little.  You lift mine.  I really do hope things get better.  Call/text/email anytime!

Alex:  Katherine, thank you.  You are amazing!

I do not relay this text exchange to brag.  I just want to remind you that you never know what role you are playing in someone’s life.

The title of this post comes from this quote by President Spencer W. Kimball.

Don’t be afraid to reach out.

READERS:  Who’s day will YOU make with a terrific text?

If I ever feel guilty about making/playing music on the Sabbath that is not explicitly churchy…

Image

I just remind myself that the

song of the righteous is a prayer!

The following song is of course not Mormon, but I adore it as it speaks in eloquent Biblical poetry (written by Bob Dylan!) of Christ, hope, salvation, redemption, and joy.  Also, the song itself is in no way sacrificed at the expense of quality music.  In other words, the lyrics don’t stand alone (this is very, very important to me)!  Listen to it please:

Lyrics here.

Oh yeah, and I quasi-worship the singer.

Screen shot 2013-09-01 at 8.02.30 AM

Oh, ring them bells for the blind and the deaf
Oh, ring them bells for all of us who are left
Oh, ring them bells for the chosen few
Who will judge the many when the game is through…

So yes, I feel at peace with this song (and some select others as well) on Sundays,

although it is not standardized in the LDS hymnbook.

If thou are merry, praise the Lord with singing, with music, with dancing, and with a prayer of Thanksgiving.

Doctrine and Covenants 136:28

Just so you know, I am cautious about this line of propriety.   I (usually) don’t perform on Sundays, and I also am not going to any Marilyn Manson concerts on Sunday (or ever).  Furthermore, I am careful in helping my friends and neighbors feel comfortable with the sweet melodies I play and the words that spill from my honey lips.

READERS!

What kind of music do you find (in)appropriate for Sabbath worship?

Ring them bells St. [K]atherine from the top of the room…
