Self-MASTERY

Masturbation is a topic that is highly sensitive, uncomfortable, and potentially embarrassing/ awkward.  Those things notwithstanding, I feel strongly enough about it that I created a short video to express my thoughts on the matter.  And let me reassure you that it is mature, tactful, and even appropriately and gently witty!

President Henry B. Eyring, or any of the LDS General Authorities, will never view this post.  But Justin Biebz and Jaden Smith remind me to “Never Say Never!”  So readers please know that if any apostle/ prophet/ Stake President/ Bishop/ employer/ long-lost cousin/WHOMEVER (!) ever did stumble (thanks Natasha B!) upon this video , I would not be uncomfortable.  In other words, IT’S CLEAN, YA’LL!  Check it stat:

and just a brief explanation of my outfit…

Recapture:

I don’t like this subject.

I am not a yucky girl.

I believe in agency.

I am fully aware that some will disagree with me.

I never intend to be preachy or judgmental.

But most importantly:

I strongly express that, whatever your religious beliefs/ life philosophies,

avoiding this type of behavior will bless your life!

🙂

Here is a landmark talk by Elder Boyd K. Packer on the matter:

(as it’s title explicates, the address was given for young men only,

but I feel comfortable including it since it is available on LDS.org)

I love how President Packer is not obscene,

but is still very direct and doesn’t hold back

(boldness, but not overbearance…)

To conclude this post, I wish to bear testimony that,

no matter your age, gender, religion, or beliefs

you will be happier if you keep your mind

and body free of this activity!

And ask the Master for help if you need it.

My favorite artist playing a sweet Jimi Hendrix cover on an electric guitar, comedically monologuing about the trial & error approach to life philosophies in a way that is naturally and absent-mindly sexy, reaffirming one’s confidence and achievements despite past failures, making (relative) peace with his enemies, reaching out to his fans in a way that only he can, and all while wearing THIS?!

My blood pressure just spiked BIG time.

in a good way!

Oh, and just so you, he can also wear this while playing to the same crowd.

of 7,000 people (!) at the LA Staples Center

where he also recorded his ever famous and influential live album:

*John’s ever evolving fashion through the years is a topic that has definitely caused some thought wrinkles in my brain.  Here is one little example.

And don’t forget about what Ms. Bedingfield so eloquently stated on the idea of fashion/music.

More to come on these ideas.

Much more.

Divine Organism

A few years back, a stupid 90s pop song suggested that the human race was merely mating mammals likened unto primates on a popular scientific television program.  Um, that’s pretty ridiculous, if you ask Kath.  Check it out:

Plus there are WAAAAAY better episodes to discover by clicking our channel changer to something else…

And now I would like to share a poem from a few years ago (I wrote it for extra credit for Biology 100 at BYU).  It is not exactly related, but it still speaks of these ideas of science/God/creation, et cetera.  Again, I’m no scientist (and don’t pretend to be!).  But I like to try to explore the ideas of reconciliation of seemingly opposing truths (over which theologians, experts, and philosophers have fought for centuries!).  HERE IT IS!

Creation or evolution?

What’s the solution?

Did God make man?

Or is it from apes we began?

Some thump their Bibles, saying evolution is libel

Some their microscopes claiming God is a hoax…

Creation or Evolution?

What’s the solution?

In this time of scientific and religious growth,

maybe the answer is BOTH!

What didjaylthink?  Again, I don’t pretend to be an expert (but check out more about Mormon scientist Henry Eyring here!) and I CERTAINLY don’t pretend to be the only person who thinks creation and evolution do not need to be mutually exclusive (line of propriety YET AGAIN!).

But seriously that poem is pretty awesome 🙂

(read it again and ponder every. single. word.)

And now a beautiful song from a band that has had on an indelible influence on not only music, not only the world, but also on Katherine!

Lyrics here

(the title is phrase-twisting Mr. Chuck 🙂 Darwin’s famous piece…)

There is obviously a lot more to say about these ideas (and you better believe I have more to write!), but this much will suffice for today.

mormon-temple-room

This is a picture from an LDS temple, where we learn more about how divine (of organisms) we really are.

(and I’m allowed to show this pic in case you are wondering!)

Readers:  What are YOUR thoughts on evolution,

science, God, creation, etc.?

Philosophy 101 with Professor K Wilkinson

The theory of existentialism posits a few things, one of which may be stated as follows:

“death just reveals the absolute absurdity of life.”  (“The Sopranos”- watched a few episodes after James Gandolfini died)

It’s true that we are born and that we later die.  But perhaps in the space betwixt birth and death, we might experience, tell, and immortalize our stories.  And if we’re lucky, we might just have a little fun while we’re at it 🙂

#humor (stretching on this one…but at least so with the post title, right?)
