Let’s STRIP away the idea that strip-clubs are cool (because they are TERRIBLE!)

Screen shot 2013-09-23 at 9.45.42 PM

The disgusting phenomenon known as “strip clubs” is a sad and embarrassing part of our society.  As is often portrayed in pop culture, “men” will go to these kinds of clubs (why they are sometimes referred to as “Gentlemen’s Clubs” is beyond me!) soon before they get married, or even for no specific occasion at all.  For some reason which I will never fully understand, it seems fun and harmless to casually objectify women.  Sadly, sometimes women themselves  contribute to this false idea; some think they will be more appealing and sexy if they fulfill some sick fantasy.  Ew!  Totez gross!  Be a lady!  And the guys need to be real men (just like Elder Christofferson talked about in this post)!  So now howzabout you let me set the record straight on what should REALLY happen on the dance floor.

Hint: it’s classy, clean, AND still lets me bust a move.

(safe for all eyes and ears OF COURSE!)

Truths to Consider:

1)  Most girls/women who work in strip-clubs have been abused and are very unhappy (more to come on this idea in another post).

2)  Most boys/men who patronize strip-clubs are lonely, desperate, insecure, and unhappy as well.

3)  God intended for us to be sexual, but within the realm of a committed, marital relationship (read more about this here), and certainly not in some stuffy, crowded shack of sin that smells like stale armpits and halitosis.

(this sentence will be repeated in this post, FYI).

4) Miley Cyrus has sooooo very much to learn.

5)  Playboy King Hugh Hefner is a TOTAL loser!

So what is to be done?  Thankfully, all is not lost.  There are inspired leaders (ancient and modern) who have given us counsel and truth concerning these issues.  Here are just a few insights that will bring us safety and happiness if we heed them:

Dancing can be fun and can provide an opportunity to meet new people.  When dancing, avoid full body contact with your partner. Do not use positions or moves that are suggestive of sexual or violent behavior or are otherwise inappropriate….Attend only those dances where dress, grooming, lighting, lyrics, music, and entertainment contribute to a wholesome atmosphere where the Spirit may be present.

[W]atch yourselves, and your thoughts, and your words, and your deeds,

and observe the commandments of God…

And once again, lemme show you a girl who can dance

and have a good time while still keeping things clean:

dancing queen

And ya’ll, this may or may not apply to you, but just so you know,

any man who engages in any sort of these behaviors

doesn’t stand a CHANCE with me!

So keep it clean, and maybe we can get to know each other.

🙂

And now let me give you a nice, take-away quote (the one I said I’d repeat!):

In conclusion, let me utilize the megaphone pic of the ever lovely Ms. Bedingfield (she can move and still be a lady!) to express something that I really just wanna shout to the world:

Don’t glamorize what is ugly in reality…

 STRIP CLUBS STINK!
.

*if you wanna pass this message/post along, I wouldn’t object…

PS.  This is not a judgment on women who work in the industry, especially because so many of them are coerced or have a terrible background story.  Don’t call me judgmental, ok?  That’s not what this is about.  We’re all children of God, but sin is sin, and I’m not afraid to call it that…

Lady Gaga

Imageis a very talented, innovative, and creative individual.  However, many of her outfits, songs, dance moves, and overall life choices are highly objectionable (duh!)  And that is not merely my opinion.  That is a FACT.  To borrow the words of Ms. Natasha Bedingfield, [Lady Gaga] is not the kind of girl you bring to mother.”  Still, I cannot completely overlook her artistic gifts!

So what is one to do about this paradox of trash and talent coexisting in the same woman?  I have coined a phrase that I believe perfectly captures this problem (and even offers a solution!).  Check it stat:

What did you think?

1 single sentence to sum up LG.

Christina Aguilera is an incredibly gifted musician,

Image

but unfortunately her blatant sexuality (and other types of extreme behavior) throughout much of her career has greatly detracted from her talent, as she is often written off (perhaps somewhat rightfully so) as a publicity stunt.

“Controversy overshadows talent” is a theme that we see again and again.

Sigh.

*Also, I love fake eyelashes, but Ms. Aguilera’s are usually WAAAAAY too long and make her look like she has an arachnid on her eyes.

Girl, here’s an example of how to make those falsies look a little more natural:

Now ya’ll, don’t think I don’t occasionally enjoy Christina’s stuff!  Here is one example where I greatly appreciate her music and her sense of fashion (the girl-next-door, casually sexy [but still appropriate!] look is one I go for a lot):

I also like this video because when I sing and bust a move, my audience is about the same size as hers.

I love the use of light/dark dichotomies

Imagebut as a writer, sometimes it can be tricky because of unintended racial implications, know what I mean?  Just gotta be wise, like Jacob said, I think…

(I dare you to listen to this song and try to resist tapping your toes.)

And while we are on the subject of race,

allow me to reiterate the words of President Gordon B. Hinckley:

Screen shot 2013-09-22 at 5.47.19 PM

“Racism still lifts its ugly head, and that is unacceptable.  I remind you that no [wo]man who makes disparaging remarks concerning those of another race can consider himself a true disciple of Christ.”

[H]e inviteth them all to come unto him and partake of his goodness;

…he denieth none that come unto him,

black and white, bond and free, male and female, Jew and Gentile…

ALL ARE ALIKE UNTO GOD.

(this is an excellent resource about racial equality within the Lord’s Kingdom).

Screen shot 2013-09-04 at 12.31.03 PM

And ya’ll just to close this post, let me say that I know that unfortunately there still is some racism lurking within our society (duh!), and sadly even within some of the members of the LDS Church (or any others who identify as followers of Christ, or perhaps even simply the human community).  But I also know that with the Savior’s help we can do better.  So I encourage you all to consider what parts of your actions, speech, and thoughts (Mosiah 4:30) you can improve to make sure you are living more fully in harmony with these sacred gospel principles.  Sound good?  Peeeeerfect 🙂

My present to you for making it to the 400th post? RAP VIDEO!

No beatin’ around the bush on that title (figuratively OR literally)!  I had my NEW friend Kemp and my OLD friend Carlos help me out.  Check it stat (and please excuse my being a little dance happy.  I’m not as smooth/subtle as my friends):

And if you think that was entertaining (probably mainly because Katherine was making a fool of herself), it actually wasn’t anything compared to what these guys can do for real.  Here’s just a taste of their INSANE TALENT.  And yes Mom, the following is improvised.

Here’s Carlos’s youtube channel.

And here’s Kemp’s twitter.

Oh, and just had to include this one too:

Singing songs about potentially unflattering subjects and STILL making great music…

(can’t choose a version)

AWESOME!

Read Lyrics Here:

PS  I appreciate these songs for their honesty and even finding gentle humor in controversy.  However, I’m not into music that glorifies certain things, say immorality, drugs, violence, or suicide.  Fine line of propriety again.

She’s Got a Way

Image

She’s got a light around her

and everywhere she goes a million dreams of love surround her.

Yes, have seen the Billy Joel musical “Movin’ Out.”  It was good until the kinky dancing started (during this song if I remember correctly), and we all felt REALLY uncomfortable.  I’m all for the first amendment and the freedom of speech AND the freedom of dance, but keep your moves clean, ya’ll!
