There’s a space between what’s said and what’s heard… (another poem)

Screen shot 2014-09-06 at 11.35.23 AM

There’s a gap between the writer and the reader
The listener and the speaker
The giver and the receiver

There’s a space between the meaning and the words
What’s said and what’s heard
What’s alleged and occurred

Understood and what’s meant
received and what’s sent
The action vs. the intent

Communication can lead to frustration
It’s hard to feel good when you’re misunderstood
Hate that darn, gaping gap
‘tween what’s real and abstract

So what’s the solution?
What can be done?
Should we try or surrender?
Can this battle be won?
It’s a tough transition; an imperfect, uncertain change
To try and speak the same language, be on the same page
But that’s why we’re here, right? That’s part of the test.
Sounds cheesy, I know, but just do your best!

One website tops it all!

I use a lot of different websites and sources for research, development, entertainment, teaching, communication and of course for inspiration and reference for this blog.  But one specific URL address stands out from all the rest…

this video is about 2x the length I usually do, but still watch it, okay? 🙂

Oh, and here’s just a little outtake:

Now, go visit that website I mentioned…

Love always, Ms. Katherine

If I had to sum up my life in one single song, it would be this one:

Lyrics here

Take all of your wasted honor.

Every little past frustration.

Take all of your so-called problems.

Better put ’em in quotations.

I am crying as I type this.  I value writing, expression, speech, literacy, validation, and communication more than any physical object that I have ever owned or will ever own.  LITERALLY!  It is most certainly a sacred gift.  Even my beloved lip gloss doesn’t come close to the joy of freedom of speech.

Hierarchy of Digital Communication

There is a hierarchy of what is generally considered appropriate in the levels of communication.  I don’t mind giving my email out to most people.  Then if people know your full name they can find you on Facebook, and depending on how comfortable you are, you can choose to accept their friend request or not.  I along with many others won’t give my phone number out freely.  And address?  No way, Jose!  But yes, email I am quite comfortable with.

But here’s the funny thing:  IT’S EASIER TO REACH ME VIA EMAIL THAN PHONE!  Actually, scratch that, text and email are probably about equal.  Rest assured, I DO pick up the phone, listen to my messages, call people back (employers, I’m talking to you!)  And generally, I do a pretty good job of keeping in touch with people, getting back to them, etc.  I just find it interesting that “phone” kinda seems to be the VIP form of communication, but this girl ain’t that into it…
