Real Vs. Ideal (Poem)

Screen shot 2016-04-28 at 6.30.16 PM
“The natural [wo]man is an enemy…”

(Mosiah 3:19 in the Book of Mormon)

Toughest critic, newfound cynic, cross examine everything
Radar for threats, emotional debts, I trust only reluctantly
Riches on my mind, not quite as kind, eyeing the world ambitiously
Only a shell of my former self, where is that girl I used to be?

How can I retain my purity after tasting the fruit of iniquity?
Can I regain my innocence in the face of spiritual dissonance?

Struggle between who I am naturally
And the person that I need to be
Caught up in ideal identities
(My best friend and my enemy)

No easy victory in this internal war
I’ve lasted this long; I’ll keep fighting some more

“Got no choice but to fight, so fight on.”

Yo Britney, don’t you dare glamorize or sexualize the idea of slavery.

ImageIt’s NOT HOT, you fool!

This is one of my stronger posts.  I’ve already used two disturbing images, and now I’m about to use some fairly strong language as well:  It pisses me off that Ms. Spears’s song “I’m a Slave 4 U” did so well.  Not only is it obscene, but it twists the sick practice of human slavery (one of the ugliest scars on the face of mankind), and seeks to portray it as sexy and attractive.  “Appalling” is  an appropriate word for this situation.

It’s just a song!” some may say.  Whoever says that is ignorant and foolish.  Violence is not okay.  It should not be part of our world, and it certainly should not be part of sex.  The song is trash.  The video is trash.  The whole yellow snake dance was trash.  The entire concept is TRASH!

Don’t glamorize or sexualize slavery.

Not trying to sound conceited…

but who else do you know who can do this when she’s still in her pajamas?

(Actually, I’m not sure that’s something to be proud of.)

Compare to this (0:35-1:10):

this song is weird and kinky and breathy and I don’t like it,

but just wanted to include for the comparison

But once again, allow me to visually remind you

of the references I made in a brief 2 minutes:

Don’t judge a book by her cover!

especially when she’s free styling.

Free Styling.

My hair was free styling.

Free falling…

John’s version (LISTEN TO IT!!!!) is better than Tom Petty’s.

Could go on forever but must go now.

chao!

PS.  I really don’t like violence.  I have a lot of reasons why and lots of thoughts on this subject.  Stay.  Tuned.

STOP BEATING YOURSELF UP!

Oh, except that when it comes to lips, I prefer red

over white (LITERALLY) 8 days a week.

🙂

PS.  I am VERY careful about how I portray violence (if at all) in this blog.  So I understand if that first picture is a bit offensive, but I just love how it captures what so many of us do to ourselves.  Britney ain’t perfect, but that’s pretty genius I think.

We aren’t all gonna win Grammys or sell out Madison Square Garden,

Image

but we can all pursue our interests, express our talents, and CREATE.

So how ’boutcha get off this blog and in the words of Britney, do something?

If I never win a Grammy, you know I’ll be alright…
