Badge

I just got a Facebook Badge (on the right-hand column)!  Cool!  So add me if ya wanna….

But I won’t BADGEr you ’bout it 🙂

badger

Badge is an interesting word.  It’s one of the words that is not super rare but not super common either.  What does it even mean?  We all kinda know intuitively but it can be hard to pinpoint an exact definition, know what I mean?  And although Ms. Natasha Bedingfield claims we “don’t need a dictionary helping,” I actually did consult one in this case:

Fascinating….

(this is not my fave JM song, but I still appreciate it)

“This house is safe and warm, but I was made to chase the storm.”

oh my gosh, this lyric TOTEZ reminds me of a speech

that was given at BYU a few years ago!

I read some stuff by Stephen Crane in an American Lit class at BYU.  Interesting.  Lots of violence, if I remember correctly.  Used stylistically and to serve a purpose, but still I strongly dislike the subject.  Just sayin’.

getting off topic again…

BADGE!

Friends:  What do YOU think of the word “badge“?

PS.  Go count all the cool stuff in the post.

Do I stay that too often?

Democracy is veeeeeery rare…

as throughout the vast majority of history there has been a vicious cycle between anarchy and dictatorship.

Image

Line of propriety.

ImageMyth vs. experience.

ImageThe Constitution is AMAZINGLY AWESOME!

America is not perfect (duh!), but if I ever hear ANY of you insult this country as a whole, you will expose yourself to the wrath of a woman who is very passionate, very logical, and (probably) knows WAAAAAAY more than you do on the subject.

Just sayin’

I pledge allegiance to this flag.  And if that bothers you, then

THAT’S TOO BAD!

No it ain’t the only place on earth, but it’s the only place that I prefer.

And I am not a nationalist (not prideful like I think Toby Keith is sometimes), but I do love my country A LOT.

More to come on these ideas.

Much more.

Abuse is one of the most heinous crimes in the history of humanity,

Image

and still I forgive Chris Brown.

Image

I the Lord will forgive whom I will forgive,

but of you it is required to forgive ALL men.”

Doctrine and Covenants 64:10

Screen shot 2013-09-20 at 8.47.41 AM

Once again, I go over my standard 2 minutes

because it is important for me to express ALL I need to say:

Recapture:

I forgive Chris Brown.

I’m quite sure Rihanna has publicly expressed that she has.

I in no way condone his past behavior as acceptable.

Abuse of any kind is unspeakably evil, ugly, and utterly unacceptable.

I can understand where Miranda Lambert (and others with similar viewpoints) are coming from.

I believe that the Atonement of Jesus Christ can redeem even people who make BIG mistakes.

I believe Mr. Brown when he has publicly expressed how sorry he is.

I expect Chris to be on his absolute best behavior from now on.

I sincerely hope I am not offending anyone who has ever experienced abuse.

And to begin to conclude this post, I wish to share the following LDS Conference Talk concerning this heartbreaking topic.

Read here.

I pray that you, as one abused or one who has caused it, will act now to avail yourself of the healing power of the Atonement of Jesus Christ. I testify that your faith and obedience will assure that He will help you.

Thank you Elder Scott.

READERS!

If any of you have experienced

or are currently experiencing abuse of any kind,

my heart and prayers are with you.

Remember that you are a child of God

and deserve to be treated as such.

The glorious right of religious freedom

Image   Image  Image

holds true for EVERYBODY.

And yet I still believe KNOW! that covenants (temple or “merely” baptismal) are not something to be taken lightly.  AT ALL.  Particularly if one is in the “public eye” (thanks, Tom Petty!)…

*intentional ambiguity is one of Katherine’s favorite tools (although truthfully I’m not being very ambiguous here)

More to come on these ideas.  Much more…

Dewey (eyed) Beauty Gets Lost in the Library…

Screen shot 2013-09-02 at 5.06.48 PM

I have a confession to make that may cause you to question my ethos as a thinker/writer/scholar:

Back to December all the time…

(don’t love this song, but am sad I didn’t mention DECEMber in the video AND I love Taylor’s whole look here…)

Anyways, libraries can be amazing, but even the great American transcendentalist Ralph Waldo Emerson knew that they could be problematic:

“Meek young men grow up in libraries, believing it their duty to accept the views, which Cicero, which Locke, which Bacon, have given, forgetful that Cicero, Locke, and Bacon were only young men in libraries, when they wrote these books.”

~The American Scholar (this address is SO powerful.  Read (about) it!

And to further illustrate (figuratively AND literally!) this idea of library limits,

allow me to borrow some palabras from my dear friend:

They read all the books, but they CAN’T FIND THE ANSWERS!”

Whitney me JM concert...

half of my heart

whitney heart half JM concert

so BACK TO BIBLIOTECHAS (after that long but still fascinating tangent)!

Let’s ask ourselves what are the extremes/outliers to all the stuff available to us today..

Where is the wisdom in all this knowledge?

Eternal struggle between reading and writing…

(good problem to have…)

READERS!

What things do you like about the library?  What things intimidate you?

If Henry David Thoreau’s mom did his laundry while he sat and wrote about a pond,

can this woman do mine while I sit and write this blog?

JUST KIDDING!  Mama Wilk’s done MORE than enough for me already, true story!  Also, I did a load this morning.  Phew!

P.S.  Yes, I just compared this blog to “Walden” and myself to one of the great American transcendentalists.  And yes, I am expecting a…you guessed it….THUNDERBOLT OF BLASPHEMY!

I’d rather take the second one, even if I DO like the guitar riff in that Maroon 5 song, know what I mean?
