Fight The Grudging Heart (A Poem)

“Comparison is the thief of joy”
    -Theodore Roosevelt
“Inspired by, not jealous of”
Is how I aim to be
(though I’ll admit it doesn’t always
Come so naturally)
 ..
So many people I admire:
their beauty, words, and acts
But watch your step, if you’re not careful
Envy may attack
  ..
Their money, family, job, their talents
Hobbies or physique
Could make me feel inferior but it
Doesn’t lessen me
   ..
Celebrate what IS and don’t just
Wish for what could be
There’s no contentment, happiness
In living covetously
 ..
And still I take some influence from
What I choose to see
How can it lift instead of augment
insecurities?
 ,,
I’ll take the good, then leave the rest
And fight the grudging heart
Be happy with where I am NOW
and still add to my art
 ,,
🙂
