Paradox (A Poem)

Paradox

screen-shot-2016-11-26-at-9-39-17-am

“The problem comes when we put our happiness on hold as we wait for some future event—our golden ticket—to appear.”
-Dieter F. Uchtdorf

Proactive and patient
How can I be both?
Comfortably complacent?
That’s toxic to my growth

But still, don’t jump ahead
It’s clear I’m not quite ready
The old cliche is true (to win the)
Race, be slow and steady

I want my dreams today, though!
And therein lies the problem
These mountains of delay (obscures my)
Tangible, true progress

I know I must choose hope (not put my)
Happiness on hold
Got more to learn, I guess
As I toil on toward my goals

It’s not easy (never has been)
As I fight the war inside
But there’s a chance I’ll make it
All I can do is try

“I’m in the war of my life. Got no choice but to fight, so fight on.”
-John Mayer
