“The Book of Mormon [musical]? A Broadway hit. A figurine of Christ in a jar of urine? A museum piece. Mocking Islam and its prophet? Intolerable.”

“[T]he media came out and defended the Texas Draw Muhammad event targeted by radical Muslims. The Chicago Tribune said the event “poke[s] wicked fun at [religion] … lampoons the ability of persons of faith to compartmentalize.” The New York Times praised the event for “scrupulously disassemb[ling]” and mocking Islam with “vignettes” that “float into the high altitudes of absurdity.” Variety called the event a “nonstop fusillade of obscenities.”

Oh, wait. Sorry, that was The Book of Mormon, the Mormonism-bashing Tony-award winning musical that actually carries a song with the lyrics “f*** you, God.” Nobody got shot for making that “brave musical.” The media worshipped it, nonetheless.

But when two radical Muslims shoot up a Draw Muhammad event in Garland, Texas, the media jump to rip the event.”

  1. Ben

My problem with these cartoon events is they pretend to defend free speech when in fact they are designed to insult Islam. The tagline of the “winning” entry tells you all you need to know: “You can’t draw me!” “That’s why I draw you…” It’s like a teenage rebellion. But to wrap it in the red white and blue of free speech? This isn’t Paul Revere riding to the rescue.

  2. Ben, are you aware that the death of the 2 gunmen (Nadir Soofi and Elton Simpson) helped uncover a network of more terrorists who were planning mass destruction of American lives? The fact that Pam Gellar and her gang got these monsters is heroic. But instead, she is smeared by the media.

What is wrong with insulting Islam? The drawer of the contest, Bosch Fawstin, left Islam because of the horrors that he saw. I encourage you to read his comments about his upbringing, specifically when he says, “Almost all of the women in my generation were beaten by their husbands. There was strong admiration for Hitler in the household, because he killed more Jews than anyone.”
