Embrace the Painful Truth

Screen shot 2015-02-26 at 10.58.29 PM

“The further a society drifts from truth, the more it will hate those who speak it.”
-George Orwell

“The guilty taketh the truth to be hard, for it cutteth them to the very center.”
-1st Nephi 2:16 (in the Book of Mormon)

“Sometimes people don’t want to hear the truth because they don’t want their illusions shattered.”
-Friedrich Nietzche

“[Y]e shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you FREE!” [emphasis added]
-Jesus Christ (John 8:32 in the New Testament in the Bible)

The truth hurts.
Embrace it anyways.

Happiness can be fleeting. Don’t miss it.

Screen shot 2015-02-25 at 2.30.06 PM

“By the time you recognize this moment, this moment will be gone.”
-John Mayer (who else?)

“Sometimes you never know the value of a moment until it becomes a memory.”
-Dr. Seuss

“What a drag to say at least we still have yesterday.”
-John Mayer (again 🙂 )

“Forget not to be happy NOW!” [emphasis added]
-Dieter Uchtdorf (2nd counselor in the First Presidency of TCOJCOLDS)

Happiness can be fleeting…

Don’t miss it

I’m Hungry For More (A Restless Girl’s Lament)

Screen shot 2015-02-21 at 1.01.57 AM

Don’t you know that

only fools are satisfied?”

Billy Joel

I’ve got an incredibly high tolerance for fun
Hard to get that same high with the things that I’ve done
Tryin’ to be grateful for all my memories
But deep down, what I really feel is melancholy

I have so many blessings, so much to be grateful for
But still I can’t deny that I’m hungry for more
Always looking for what’s next; gotta be better than the last
If I don’t swing for fences, I’ll get lost in my past

It’s not all bad; rather be restless than complacent
But when you’re (slightly) bored and lonely, it’s exceptionally hard to be patient
I know I won’t ever emotionally retire
Keep chasing the sun and feeding my fire

So here’s a restless girl’s lament: not to grief, but to discontent
Just try to accept it and take it in stride
No matter what I do, I’ll never be satisfied

I need another hit, better go try and find it…

PS: I’m aware that my first and last stanzas contain language that could be interpreted to allude to drug use, but I’ve never done drugs in my life (and never will). It’s figurative, people! 🙂

Lean Into the Mountain (A Poem)

Screen shot 2015-02-16 at 9.22.18 PM

The Challenge

Take a deep breath, remember your name
Lean into the mountain, and walk toward the flame
Don’t try to deny it, that’ll only make it worse
Just accept the treacherous ground to traverse

Build my heart an army, then brace it for impact
Leave it all on the field, but keep my dignity intact
And even if I’m broken, no matter how it hurts
My value is inherent; nothing changes my worth

So show your grit in those emotional climbs
And don’t be scared to fail; it happens all the time
Everybody loses, and everybody falls
And not taking the chance would be the saddest ending of all.

I’ve been to hell and back, this really should be cake
Still, my soul’s on the line, there’s so much at stake
But it’s a risk that I’ll take, the price I have to pay
And I KNOW it’ll pay off big one of these days!

PS: 2 John Mayer quotes in this one. Did you find them?

Kate Kelly is No Fan of Mine!

Screen shot 2015-02-14 at 4.47.41 PM

“[T]he Mormon faith has become a place that incentivizes the survival of the least fit…Only the least talented, least articulate, least nuanced thinkers, least likely to take a stand against abuse, and the least courageous people thrive in the Church today.”
-Kate Kelly (founder of “Ordain Women” movement)

Guess she doesn’t think too much of me and others like me, huh?

Insulting?                    Yep.

Self-serving?               You betcha (seriously, how full of herself is she?)

Inaccurate?                 Totally.

Cuz the haters gonna hate, hate, hate, hate, hate…

Just gotta SHAKE IT OFF!

Waiting is Excruciating (a poem)

Screen shot 2015-02-11 at 10.40.08 PMDon’t like what I witness, but I can’t set it right
Can’t stand what I’m seeing, but there’s no use to fight

Only partial perspective, but still hold an invective
Try to be understanding instead of demanding
Still, it’s *excruciating* to just sit here waiting

And the more I experience, the more that I see
For good and for bad, now it’s all clear to me
But if I said things were hopeless, then I’d be remiss
Not so, there’s more coming, so remember this:

I’ll get my own chance one day
To clear the path and create things my way
Rigid systems subside, and I’ll get that reward.
So, just try to patiently wait on the Lord

..and on yourself

“I waited patiently for the Lord;

and he inclined unto me, and heard my cry.”

-Psalm 40:1

I’ve lost faith in (a lot of) people, but the Lord doesn’t slack in His promise.

Screen shot 2015-02-09 at 2.38.35 PM

“I have faith in the Lord, but I’m not sure I have faith in people anymore.”
-Yours truly (in the not so distant past)

“[C]ursed is he who putteth his trust in man..”
-2nd Nephi 4:34 (in the Book of Mormon)
“You’re no one ’til someone lets you down.”

“The Lord is not slack concerning [H]is promise”
-2nd Peter 3:9 (in the New Testament in the Bible)

Who’s let you down?
Who did you make the mistake of trusting?
And how has the Lord not slacked for you? 🙂

PS: As with everything I post, every picture has a purpose. And I deeply admire Governor Abbott.

Don’t Cast Your Pearls Before Me (A Poem)

Screen shot 2015-02-05 at 1.39.29 PM

Don’t you cast your pearls ‘fore me
‘Cuz I don’t really want to see
Things could be different if I were invested
But this isn’t anything that I requested

Just short of saying, you want me involved
But yours are problems I never could solve
And though your trust in me is flattering
It comes across as pressuring

Trying to take on your weight is bad for my health
Barely got enough strength for myself
Like Laura said, “the Lord knows what [you] need”
But the sad truth is that it isn’t me

I have to be cruel to be kind:
There’s someone else you need to find

PS: I just compared myself to a pig
