Anyone who thinks or assumes that the policies and statements put out by the leaders of the LDS Church (aka the First Presidency and the Quorum of the 12) are authoritarian, or Big Brother-esque, that they somehow impose their views upon us, could not be more wrong. Yes, we accept their counsel as divinely inspired, but we are NOT forced to obey (or even to believe) anything. The principle of agency is one of the foundational values of the Latter-day Saint theology.
It reaaaaally bothers me when people insinuate that Mormons are controlled, either in behavior or thought, by these men. That. Is. Not. The. Case.
Make sense? Perfect!
