Words by themselves are certainly not worthless, but are usually incomplete if they are alone. Words are simply phonetic symbols for ideas and feelings [Writers of the (Post) Modernist era expressed anxiety about the frequent gap/disconnect between words and ideas].
Although I deeply love words, I recognize that they are primarily tools to express meaning, which, for much of the time, is infinitely more important. Now I love wordplay as much as any writer, but the meaning is where the meat is, know what I’m sayin’ ? John and Natasha sure do 🙂
